I believe that my article on Global Warming has created ripples on a..Global scale, what else. So much so that there now will be a concert that will be held across 7 continents to thank me for enlightening the world about global warming and its aftermath.
I wish.
But then, there is going to be a Concert that is going to be held on the 7th of July 2007 (07/07/07) . To be held across 7 continents for a period of 24 hours, this concert to be called Live Earth will be an effort by the global musical fraternity to educate the masses about the need to effectively address global warming.
To be held on the lines of Live 8, which was held on July 2, 2005 in 8 locations, one venue in each G8 nation, the Live 8 concert drew such an amazing response that the Group of 8 nations’ leaders immediately wrote off all outstanding debts that were owed by the African nations and promised to double the aid to them. A similar event was the Live Aid event which was another event that was organised to raise funds for the famine in Ethiopia.
With former US Vice President Al Gore as one of the promoters, the Live Earth Concert promises to be one of the biggest concerts to be ever held. It promises to raise a lot of awareness regarding environmental changes and how we can do our bit to save Mother Earth.
In India, VH1 will be airing the concert for the entire 24 hours beginning at 2.30 PM Saturday. The channel has already began airing many promos for the show, and a song which is a mix, combining Pink Floyd’s epic number Another Brick In The Wall with lyrics suited to the present scenario. Titled “Proper Education” by Eric Prydz, here is the video.
Unfortunately for people like me affected by the CAS fiasco, we can only dream…

Among other things, Nat Geo aired a one hour program on Saturday called Hijack. This particular episode dealt with the hijacking of Indian Airlines IC 814 and the subsequent drama that followed. It brought back vivid memories of the nightmare that the hijacking was and the pressure that the Indian Government was under. Could India have handled the issue in a different way, the way the Russians stormed the theatre and released the hostages ?
We failed to storm the plane and rescue it from four hijackers when the plane was grounded for more than 3 hours in Amritsar. With the plane having been landed in Afghanistan which was then under the control of the Taliban, inspite of the pilot’s best efforts to keep the aircraft in the Indian airspace, there was little anyone can do after that. The pilot reportedly saw the hijackers and the Taliban commanders wave at each other. There was nothing the Indian government could do even if it had wanted to storm the plane. We were forced to release the three terrorists. One of them later went on to fund the operation that brought down the WTC towers.Another one was invloved in the attacks on our Parliament. We paid the price for not nailing down those terrorists in Amritsar. And the world paid, big time.
The program showcased all this in vivid description.
There are also numerous other programs on the idiot box, which rather enlighten us , like the show called “How Do They Do It” which is aired on Discovery Channel every Saturday at 10 PM. This show documents the origins of simple things which we use everyday, like a glass or a pencil, and showcases the complexities that are involved. Very interesting program this one is.
And another program that will tickle your ribs is this show “The Week That Wasn’t” hosted by Cyrus Broacha, the famous VJ from MTV India. This program looks at the funny side of all events that happened over the week and presents the host’s take on them. Real funny ass stuff this is…
I can document all the programs that I frequently watch, but I guess I bored you enough already. But whatever it may take, don’t forget to tune into the Live Earth concert if you have VH1 at your place. Show your support for this program and help promote a cause.
Adios….
